Good Housekeeping Feature!
I could not let April slip by without thanking Good Housekeeping for our Feature in the Good Stuff this month. What a thrill it was to open and see our picture on the pages of this publication! I may or may not have gone out and bought a few issues for every room in my home but who's to say?
The feature is located on the third page and it's called The Good Stuff. It's a DIY simple floral arrangement of tulips placed in thrifted milk glass vases. I have been collecting milk glass for years. I find milk glass from various places such as yard sales, thrift shops and estate sales. I never pay more than a couple of dollars for each vase. I have found them as cheap as a quarter.
The feature in the magazine shows a cabinet that was a thrifted find that cost $50. I just gave it a little TLC with some chalk paint! I was nervous to paint this piece and very happy with the outcome. Sometimes you just gotta take risks!
I do love my thrift shopping but it can get addicting. For those of you who have been at it for a while you know what I am talking about.
There is something about hunting for that certain something. There's just that feeling of satisfaction when you find it. Yes, you know what I'm talking about! It's like when you go to Home Goods and you see something you love and you don't buy it and you say to yourself "well, I love it but I don't need it." Then you go home and think about it and obsess about it. You think about it all the time. The next day you go back to Home Goods and it's gone! Darn it. Why didn't you just buy it? You loved it! I do this all the time.
Thrifting is the opposite because you get the BEST feeling when you find that something that you are searching for whether it's that piece of milkglass or a mirror for a shelf, or a wooden bowl you need or a piece of China that you needed to complete a set.
It's finding that find that no one else has and that one-of-a-kind piece that fits your home and costs almost next to nothing. It's kinda like that feeling when you go thrifting. You are searching for something that you don't even know you want but when you find it. . . . it's a great feeling!
I love to mix thrifted finds into my home and I have found some amazing things over the years.
My daughter and I love to hit garage sales on Saturday mornings between 6 am till around 8:30 a.m. That seems to be the key time to find the best things in our area. We don't always score amazing items every time but we sure have fun trying.
With COVID-19 now in the mix, things are obviously going to be very different and I am not even sure what to expect as far as yard sales and estate sales go. We will just have to see. One thing is for sure though, I will always have a love for thrifting and hunting for unique and one-of-a-kind home decor items for my home.
